Why Consumption Of Mustard Oil Is Banned In The US And Europe? Know Reason

Mustard seeds are one of most valuable source of oil. While Asian countries use it for cooking, USA and Europe have banned this oil for human consumption.

Although it has many medicinal properties that includes its heart-healthy composition, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and analgesic qualities; the reason for the ban is because of Erucic acid.

According to the US Food And Drug Administration, the amount of Erucic acid in mustard oil is quite high.

It is a type of fatty acid which is harmful for health as it is not metabolised properly and has a detrimental effect on brain cells as well.

In addition, it also leads to the increased accumulation of fat in the body.

This is why mustard oil is banned in US and Europe. However, it can still be used as a skincare and haircare ingredient.

Efforts are being made to lessen the amount of erucic acid in mustard oil because of the oil's possible health benefits.

Instead of mustard oil, soybean oil is used for cooking which contains Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids and promotes collagen, flexibility, and general skin health.
