Mukhtar Ansari, a gangster turned politician, was laid to rest on Saturday at the Kali Bagh burial ground in Ghazipur.

Ansari died due to cardiac arrest on Thursday.

The body was transported to the family's ancestral burial ground, about a half-kilometer from their home, where a grave was dug on Friday near that of Mukhtar Ansari's parents.

The local administration made elaborate security arrangements outside Ansari's home and burial site.

His body was transported to his hometown around midnight on Friday.

Ansari's funeral was attended by his older brother Afzal Ansari, son Omar Ansari, nephew Suhaib Ansari, and other family members and supporters.

A large crowd accompanied the procession, and some even raised slogans.

When Afzal Ansari arrived at the cemetery, he urged the crowd to remain calm. His older brother, former MLA Sibgatullah Ansari, also attended the funeral.

However, Mukhtar Ansari's elder son and MLA, Abbas Ansari, was unable to attend the funeral. He is being held in Kasganj jail in connection with criminal charges.

The funeral procession took longer than expected to arrive at Mohammadabad's burial ground due to the large crowd.
