How To Check Battery Health On Laptop: Step-By-Step Guide

Anyone who has used a laptop long enough to experience a decline in battery life understands the importance of knowing how to check its battery health.

Over time, a battery's capacity diminishes, and eventually, you'll need to replace either the battery or the entire laptop.

By following a few straightforward steps, you can obtain a detailed battery report to help you determine whether you need to order a new battery or adjust your charging habits.

Steps to check battery health: Open Command Prompt by typing 'Command Prompt' in the search bar and then click on Run As Administrator.

Type in 'powercfg /batteryreport' and press Enter. Make a note of which folder the report has been saved to.

Open File Explorer and go to that folder. Scroll down until you find the battery report and double-click on it to open.

Focus on the first two sections. The top section called 'Installed Batteries' shows general info about the battery – make note of the Full Charge Capacity Cycle Count.

Scroll to the bottom of the next section called Recent Usage to find the most recent status recorded. Make note of the percentage as well as the total capacity remaining.

Check it and decide accordingly if you wish to replace the battery or the laptop.
