Cyclone Remal made landfall in Bangladesh on Sunday night, prompting the evacuation of over 8,00,000 people.

Authorities evacuated over 1.10 lakh people from West Bengal's coastal regions ahead of Cyclone Remal.

Cyclone Remal started crossing the West Bengal coast in India and Bangladesh's southwestern coastlines around 8:30 pm.

The eye of Cyclone Remal was expected to cross Bangladesh between 12:00-1:00 am on Monday.

Over 1 lakh people in Bengal's coastal areas, including the Sundarbans and Sagar Island, were moved to shelters.

Sixteen battalions from state disaster management and NDRF were deployed in the coastal areas.

PM Modi chaired a high-level meeting to take stock of the preparedness of measures taken ahead of Cyclon Remal's landfall on Bengal coast.

Inhabitants of Kakdwip, Namkhana, Diamond Harbour, and Raichawk were shifted to safe shelters.

The state government distributed approximately 5.40 lakh tarpaulins and ensured the availability of dry rations and drinking water.

A centralised control unit was established at the state secretariat to monitor the cyclone's impact.

Coastal districts were expected to experience extremely heavy rainfall, with Kolkata facing heavy to very heavy rainfall.
