The United States will get its largest temple in October.

The BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham will be formally inaugurated on October 8 in New Jersey.

Over 12,500 volunteers were involved in the construction of the 183-acre temple, which will open for visitors on Oct 18.

This is the second largest temple after Angkor Wat in Cambodia, which is over 500 acres and a UNESCO Heritage site.

As per Guinness Book of World Records, Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument in the world.

The Akshardham temple in Delhi is also among the largest temples in the world, which is spread over 100 acres.

Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam in Tamil Nadu's Tiruchirapalli is also one of the largest Hindu temples.

The Chitambaram Nataraja temple in Tamil Nadu, devoted to Lord Shiva, is spread across 40 acres.

The Belur Math in Kolkata, headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission, is known for its architecture and is spread across 40 acres.
