Which Countries Have Quotas For Women In Parliament?
According to Sweden-based International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, about 40 countries have quotas for women in Parliament.
India: The PM Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet approved the Women's Reservation Bill, which proposes the reservation of 33%, or one-third, of seats in Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women.
Pakistan: 60 seats are reserved for women in the National Assembly.
Bangladesh: 50 seats are reserved for women in Parliament.
Nepal: 33% seats are reserved for women in Parliament.
Afghanistan: 27% seats were reserved for women in Parliament before the Taliban takeover.
UAE: 50% of the seats in the Federal National Council (FNC) are reserved for women.
Indonesia: Candidates must represent at least 30% of women in Parliament.
South Africa- Countries biggest political party, the African National Congress (ANC) has about 50 per cent of reservations for women. Currently, women comprise 44.8 per cent of its current National Assembly.
