Hathras Stampede: Death Toll Rises To 121, Most Casualties Were Women

A crowd of thousands had gathered near Phulrai village in the Sikandrarau area for a 'satsang' by religious preacher Bhole Baba.

The stampede is believed to have occurred due to severe humidity and heat in the pandal as it was overcrowded and there was a narrow exit.

Many women, elderly people, and children were injured, with several reported to be in serious condition.

The UP Police have registered an FIR against the organisers for allegedly hiding evidence & allowing 2.5 lakh people to attend the event when only 80,000 were permitted.

Followers of 'Bhole Baba' allegedly hid evidence of the stampede by throwing slippers and belongings of victims in the nearby fields, police said in the FIR.

A forensic team was at the site to gather evidence.

After the stampede, 21 bodies were taken to medical centres Agra, 28 to Etah, 34 were in Hathras and 38 in Aligarh.

After the stampede, families were left searching for their loved ones.

A PIL filed in the Supreme Court for a high-level inquiry committee under supervision of a retired top court judge.

The preacher, Narayan Sakar Hari aka 'Bhole Baba', is on the run. He has not been named in the FIR.
