The Most Common Autoimmune Diseases

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): Chronic joint inflammation causes pain, swelling, and stiffness, and can lead to joint deformities.

Dermatomyositis: A rare autoimmune disorder that inflames skin and muscles, causing a purplish rash, muscle weakness, and elevated muscle enzymes.

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE): This disease affects various organs, causing symptoms like skin rashes, joint pain, and kidney failure.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS): This is a neurological autoimmune disease that attacks nerve fibre covering, disrupting communication between the brain and body, resulting in fatigue, weakness, and coordination issues.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): The immune system targets the digestive tract, causing inflammation, abdominal pain, and diarrhoea.

Psoriasis: This chronic skin condition speeds up skin cell production, causing red, scaly patches.

Hashimoto's Thyroiditis: Autoimmune disease inflames the thyroid gland, leading to reduced thyroid function and symptoms like fatigue and weight gain.

Graves' Disease: Autoimmune disorder that overstimulates the thyroid gland, causing symptoms such as weight loss, rapid heart rate, and bulging eyes.

Celiac Disease: An autoimmune reaction to gluten damages the small intestine lining, leading to malabsorption and gastrointestinal symptoms.

Myasthenia Gravis: This neuromuscular autoimmune disease causes muscle weakness and fatigue, especially in the facial and neck muscles.
