View In AppPanic struck Chandigarh’s upscale Sector 10 on Wednesday evening when two individuals in an autorickshaw hurled an explosive device, believed to be a hand grenade, at the front verandah of a residence. The targeted house, number 575, belongs to KK Malhotra, a 100-year-old retired principal from an institute in Himachal Pradesh. Remarkably, Malhotra and his wife narrowly escaped harm as they had been sitting in the verandah just moments before the attack but had moved inside the house shortly before the explosion. The blast caused damage to several glass windows and flower pots on the verandah. Following the incident, teams from the bomb detection squad and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory were promptly dispatched to the scene. Surveillance footage captured a man in a white T-shirt fleeing the area shortly before the explosion, which rocked the house. The footage shows the man getting into an autorickshaw, which quickly departed the scene, narrowly avoiding a collision with an oncoming car. Later in the evening, police impounded the autorickshaw, which had a Punjab registration, and arrested its driver, Kuldeep. He is currently being interrogated for information about the two individuals who were in the rickshaw at the time of the attack.
