New Delhi: A man who was responsible for managing a WhatsApp group was arrested allegedly after a "derogatory" comment against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath posted on the group surfaced on social media, police said on Saturday, reported news agency PTI.
The SHO of Kotwali Police Station, Ajay Kumar Seth, said that the man arrested has been identified as Sahabuddin Ansari, while the man who posted the comment, identified as Muslim Ansari, is still at large, as per the agency.
Seth said that a comment against UP CM had gone viral on social media on August 4.
According to him, police had received the complaint in this regard on August 4 through Twitter. He added that a screenshot of the derogatory comment has been obtained.
According to PTI, a case was registered against Sahabuddin Ansari and Muslim Ansari under various sections of the IPC, IT Act and Criminal Law Amendment Act on the basis of the complaint.
According to police, the name of the WhatsApp group is 'Nagar Palika Parishad Bhadohi', which has almost all the corporators of the Nagar Palika Parishad of Bhadohi, and members of the public, and its purpose was to address the problems faced by the common people.
This is not an official WhatsApp group of corporators, police added.
In a similar incident, earlier in April, police arrested a man for allegedly posting objectionable remarks against UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Facebook, news agency PTI reported.
The action was taken after an FIR was registered against Mohammad Azim alias Ajju under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
Azim, a resident of Revati town, is also accused of hurting religious sentiments, promoting enmity between two communities, and trying to disturb religious harmony, PTI had reported quoting Harendra Singh, in-charge of Revati police station.
