UP: Shahjahanpur Village Pradhans Directed To Shelter 10 Cows To Prevent Damage To Crops

More than 6,000 cows and other cattle have been safely housed in gram panchayats as a result of the campaign.

New Delhi: The district administration in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur has requested that the heads of each village take care of ten stray cows to prevent them from causing damage to farmers' crops, reported news agency PTI. Under its "Every pradhan, 10 cows" campaign, the administration has called for the safe return of stray cattle and their prevention of blocking roads and entering fields.

The experiment, which began in Shahjahanpur, has been a "great success," according to officials. More than 6,000 cows and other cattle have been safely housed in gram panchayats as a result of the campaign, according to a senior district official, and the effort to house more is ongoing.

There have been numerous reports that stray cattle are causing crop damage and road accidents.

PTI was informed by District Chief Development Officer Shyam Bahadur Singh that villagers had been complaining about stray cattle.

He stated, "The matter was taken seriously and this programme involving village heads was formulated."

According to Singh, the plan was outlined at a meeting of village leaders this past week, and they were instructed to house at least ten stray cattle in their area.

He stated that cowsheds have received approximately 6,000 animals from 1069 gram panchayats in the district.

He stated that the administration has established teams at the block level and is currently expanding the campaign to include additional district villages.

Manvendra Singh Chauhan, head of the Rampur Barkat panchayat, said that the initiative has reduced their threat to a significant extent. He gave shelter to 18 animals.

According to Brijpal, head of the Mauzampur gram sabha, whose village is on the Delhi-Lucknow national highway, unclaimed cattle frequently sat in the middle of the road, causing traffic to be impacted.

He stated that the campaign has improved the situation.

Rajendra Gupta, a transporter based in Allahaganj, was pleased to see that the number of road accidents and stray cattle loitering on national highways has decreased.
