UP News: A man died after consuming poison outside the residence of the superintendent of police in Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit on Saturday after the police allegedly did not file a case of harassment against his wife, as reported by news agency PTI. The police said that the matter is being looked into.

According to the police, family members of the man said his wife filed a complaint of domestic violence against him a few days ago. The police, however, have not taken up his complaint regarding harassment by his wife, they said. Pradeep and Isha got married two months ago, and the latter was allegedly demanding Rs 5 lakh from him, PTI reported, citing police sources.

Pradeep went to the SP's office on Saturday morning to file a complaint against his wife but the officer was not present, family members said. So, Pradeep went to the SP's residence and consumed poison, they said. "Pradeep, a resident of Sungarhi police station area consumed poison. He was taken to a hospital by the staff. The matter is being looked into," Superintendent of Police (SP) Atul Sharma said, as quoted by PTI.

Later, speaking to mediapersons, Circle Officer (CO) Deepak Chaturvedi said that Pradeep died on the way to a hospital in nearby Bareilly district. He said the post-mortem of the body will be conducted there. Further action will be taken after the man's family members file a complaint, he added.
