New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 'Jan Chaupal' rally organised in Bijnor virtually. PM Modi has to visit the city today but his trip was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Arrangements had been made at the Bardaman college ground for the prime minister's rally but due to bad weather, he could not arrive here, according to a PTI report.
Bijnor has eight assembly seats out of which five are with the BJP at present and the rest three are with the SP.
The district, where almost 50 percent population is of Dalits and Muslims, has two Lok Sabha seats-- Bijnor and Nagina -- both of which are with the BSP.
Here are some highlights of PM Modi's virtual rally:
- PM Modi began his address with an apology for canceling his visit to the city. He said, "First of all, I'd like to apologise to you. After some relaxation by the EC, I had thought of beginning my campaign by coming to Bijnor (UP) in person. But due to weather conditions, my helicopter couldn't leave and I could see you only through video conferencing once again."
- Hitting at the opposition in UP, PM Modi said, "The water in the river of development in UP was stagnant. It was stagnating among the fake 'Samajwadis' & their close ones. These people never had anything to do with the thirst of the development of common man, the thirst of progress, the thirst of freedom from poverty. All they did was to keep quenching their own thirst and that of their close ones. They kept quenching the thirst of their own coffers. This selfish thirst soaks all streams of the river of development."
- Further attacking the previous governments, PM Modi said, "Today those who are trying to mislead you, must ask them that when they were in government, how much electricity did those people give in this area, in your villages? Earlier, in UP and in western UP, our farmers and youth failed without electricity."
- Focusing on the farmers and listing out developments done in the 'double engine' government, PM Modi said, "these people are trying to mislead you by citing the legacy of Chaudhary Charan Singh Ji. You will be surprised to know that Yogi ji's government has bought more than twice as much wheat at MSP as was done in the earlier government.."
- Applauding Yogi Adityanath's work in the state, PM Modi said, "the hardworking Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh is working day and night to help small entrepreneurs. It is BJP's priority that there should be no dearth of opportunities for the youth of Bijnor, Moradabad, and Amroha.
- PM Modi said, "We want that in the next 25 yrs, when the nation would complete 100 yrs of independence, UP make a mark with its development story. Our govt is making continuous efforts to see that the businessmen, industrialists, farmers here get all possible help."
- Talking about the safety of women in the state under the BJP government, PM Modi said, "Earlier, molestation of women was very common. The situation was so bad that after incidents of chain snatching, people were thankful that they were still alive. CM Yogi's govt freed women from that fear. We gave women their true honour."
