UP News: A police constable was killed and a sub-inspector sustained injuries after the service weapon of an inspector accidentally discharged during a raid in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh early on Thursday, news agency PTI reported, citing officials.


Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjiv Suman said the Special Operations Group (SOG) and personnel from two police stations conducted the raid to nab cattle smugglers in a village bordering Bulandshahr district. According to PTI, Inspector Azhar Hussain's pistol jammed during the operation.


While sub-inspector Rajiv Kumar was attempting to unlock the weapon, it suddenly discharged. The bullet pierced through Kumar's abdomen and hit Constable Yakoob in the head, the SSP said. He said Yakoob succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital while Kumar was undergoing treatment. The SSP has ordered an investigation into the incident.

In another incident that took place in UP's Banda, at least four police personnel were suspended and an FIR was lodged against them after a man fled from a police station and was later found dead on railway tracks in Chitrakoot district, officials said on Tuesday.


Anshu (27) was brought to the Manikpur police station on Sunday evening for allegedly creating a ruckus in an inebriated state during a Moharram procession, Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Singh said, PTI reported.


CCTV footage of the police station revealed that Anshu was brought there on an e-rickshaw at 7 pm on Sunday. Within nine minutes, he was seen running outside, the senior police official said.


According to PTI, SHO Vinod Shukla, head constable Veer Singh, and constables Pramod Paswan and Ankit Rajput have been suspended, the SP said, adding an FIR has also been lodged against them.
