Day after the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UPSTF) killed Atiq Ahmed's son Asad Ahmed and shooter Ghulam in an encounter in UP's Jhansi, Ghulam's mother has lauded the state government for the action. Both Asad and Ghulam were accused in the Umesh Pal murder case and were absconding since the day Pal was shot in broad daylight in UP's Prayagraj in February. Talking to ANI over the encounter, Ghulam's mother Khusnuda said that the action was absolutely correct and this would work as a lesson for all gangsters and criminals.

She said that she had no idea about her son being involved with gangster Atiq Ahmed. "He was very good, but since last a few moths, he got involved in these notorious things," she said.

On whether she will claim the body of Ghulam, she said, "I will not receive his body, maybe his wife will receive it."

Earlier on Thursday, Ghulam's brother said that the family will not accept his body for his last rites. Rahil Hasan, brother of slain shooter Ghulam, told ABP News: "Whatever information we had, we had given it to the police. We knew that the police were constantly looking for him. I also came to know about the encounter half an hour ago. He had already severed ties with the family. Whenever Atiq used to appear in court, Ghulam used to go to meet him."

"There was a murder case in 2007 in which Ghulam was in jail, during this period he befriended Atiq. We had no idea that Ghulam was hand in glove with Atiq's family and had Umesh Pal murdered. We will not take his dead body. Mother and father have also said that we will not take his dead body (for a funeral)," he added.

Earlier, Special Additional Director General (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar informed: "Asad and Ghulam were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case of Prayagraj and were carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh each. They were killed in an encounter with the UP STF team".

"The UP STF team was led by Deputy SP Navendu and Vimal. Sophisticated foreign-made weapons were recovered from the accused. Further details are awaited," the officer added.
