SC Rejects Plea Seeking Scientific Survey In Mathura's Krishna Janambhoomi

The Supreme Court refused to entertain the plea seeking scientific survey in Mathura's Krishna Janambhoomi.

The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain the plea seeking scientific survey in Mathura's Krishna Janambhoomi in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura, as reported by the news agency ANI. Last month, the ‘Shri Krishna Janambhoomi Mukti Nirman Trust’ moved the apex court seeking a survey of the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah mosque premises to determine whether it was built on a pre-existing Hindu temple.

Advocate Sarthak Chaturvedi, representing petitioner Ashutosh Pandey, said that the apex court has asked them to move an application in High Court. "The Supreme Court has asked us to move an application in High Court. Our basic prayer was that a survey should be conducted on the complex to find out who owns the land," Chaturvedi said, as quoted by PTI. 

The Trust had challenged Allahabad High Court’s order which dismissed its plea to direct the Mathura civil judge to decide its application for a scientific survey of the mosque premises first before deciding the objections raised against the suit, as reported by the news agency PTI.

The management committee of the mosque and the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board had raised objections against the suit. In its plea, the Trust has submitted that Shahi Masjid Eidgah Management Committee is intentionally attempting to seize control of the sacred worship place of the Hindus and preventing it and other devoted followers from practising their religious rituals on the premises.
