New Delhi:  Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi on Friday held a joint rally in Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli along with Samajwadi Party Chief and candidate from the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat, Akhilesh Yadav. Addressing a public rally, Congress Leader Sonia Gandhi emphasised the deep-rooted connection of her family to the land, stating, "The roots of our family are connected to the soil of this land. This relation, as pure as Ganga ma, began with the farmer's agitation of Awadh and Rae Bareli. In Indira Ji's heart, there was a special place for Rae Bareli".

"I have seen her working very closely... I have given the same teachings to Rahul and Priyanka, that Indira Ji and the people of Rae Bareli had given to me: Respect all, protect the weak, fight against injustice, and don't be scared... Your love never made me feel alone. Everything I have is yours... I am handing over my son to you. You have to accept him, just like you accepted me. Rahul will not disappoint you", reported ANI.

She also remarked, "Rae Bareli is my family and Amethi is my home. Indira Ji had a special place for Rae Bareli in her heart; I have seen her working closely, she had immense love for you. I have given the same education to Rahul and Priyanka that Indira Ji and people of Rae Bareli gave me."

The former Rae Bareli Lok Sabha candidate expressed her gratitude and reverence to the people saying, "I am happy that after a long time, I have got the opportunity to come amongst you. I am deeply grateful to you, my head bows before you in reverence. You gave me the opportunity to serve as an MP, that's the biggest asset of my life", reported PTI.

Sonia Gandhi was first elected as an MP from Rae Bareli in 2004 and represented the seat till earlier this year when she vacated it upon getting elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha. Rahul Gandhi is in the fray from the Rae Bareli constituency this time.

14 Lok Sabha seats, including key seats like Rae Bareli, and Amethi, go to polls during the fifth phase of the general election on May 20.
