New Delhi: Umesh Pal’s mother Shanti Devi hopes that gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed “will be given a death sentence for the murder of my son” after a MP-MLA court in Prayagraj found Atiq guilty in the 2005 Umesh Pal abduction case today. Ahmed and other accused have been sentenced for life imprisonment in the case.

Speaking to the news agency ANI, slain Umesh Pal’s mother, Shanti Devi said she has faith in court and that Atiq will be given the death sentence for the murder of her son.

“It has been 18 years since my son was kidnapped. He was a fighter. I have faith in the court. He (Atiq Ahmed) was sentenced to life imprisonment for kidnapping my son but he should be given a death sentence for the murder of my son. I have faith in UP CM Yogi Adityanath,” she said.

Former Samajwadi Party MLA, Atiq Ahmed was also the main accused in Umesh Pal’s murder in February this year. Umesh Pal was the main witness in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal’s murder case.

Echoing demand for a death sentence, Pal’s wife Jaya Devi said they were satisfied with the judgment.

“We are satisfied with the judgement as of now. Atiq Ahmed should be given a death sentence for killing my husband. We want justice and I request UP CM Yogi Adityanath to help us. If he and his brother will survive, it will be a problem for us and the society,” she told the news agency.
