An Uttar Pradesh police officer was sent to police lines after a video of his children showing off bundles of currency notes surfaced on the internet. In the video, the two children of Behta Mujawar police station (Unnao) SHO Ramesh Chandra Sahani, were seen sitting on a bed with with 27 bundles of Rs 500 currency notes. Superintendet of Police (SP) Siddharth Shankar Meena took cognisance of the matter and sent the SHO to police lines while ordering a probe into the matter by the Bangarmau circle officer (CO), reported news agency PTI.

The photo, which is now making rounds on social media, shows the police officer's wife and two children sitting on a bed with a huge pile of cash worth over Rs 13 lakhs. CO Pankaj Singh in a viral social media post said that the Sahani family members were seen sitting with bundles of Rs 500 currency notes. He added that a probe into the matter is underway.

The shunted SHO did not respond to calls when news agency PTI tried to contact him.

In another recent incident, an IPS officer, Anirudh Singh, was seen demanding money from businessman. Samajwadi party leader Akhilesh Yadav took a jibe at the Yogi government over this back in March and tweeted, “After this video of an IPS demanding money in UP, will the direction of bulldozers change towards him or will the BJP government get rid of the matter by adding one more name to the list of absconding IPS? The people of UP are seeing the reality of BJP's zero-tolerance towards crime.”

Since the SP chief’s tweet, a probe has been ordered against the officer, who is currently posted in Varanasi, and the Commissioner has been asked to submit his report in the matter. The purported video is said to be of a time when Singh was posted in Meerut. Meerut Police in its reply on Twitter said, "This video is over 2 years old and does not have any connection with Meerut. Probe has been completed in the matter."
