The stage is set for one of the holiest religious Hindu gathering 'Kumbh Mela' which begins on January 15 in Hairdwar. Haridwar DM C Ravishankar has issued these instructions on Sunday saying devotees without passes will be denied entry into the religious gathering, as per news agency ANI. On the other hand, Haridwar district administration has demanded 70,000 doses of Covid vaccines to vaccinate personnel posted on Kumbh Mela duty. The vaccination drive will begin on Monday, as informed by District Magistrate C Ravishankar.
The mela will continue till next two months and conclude on Arpil 27. Earlier, the central government has instructed the Uttarakhand government for making the Covid-19 test mandatory for devotees coming for 'Haridwar Kumbh Mela', along with other strict standard operating procedures released by it for the mass religious gathering.
The Kumbh Mela administration has put cameras with head-count software at the Ganga Ghats, to keep an eye on the crowd. The cameras will immediately alert the police if the crowd increases beyond the limit.
Around 1.09 lakh people will be allowed at a time at the 107 Ganga Ghats, out of which 20,000 devotees will be able to take a holy dip at Har ki Paudi and 10,000 at Subash Ghat, as per the news agency ANI. The entire measurement of 107 Ganga Ghats has been done, according to which the number of devotees has been fixed. In view of following social distancing, the cameras are installed so that if there is more congestion than the fixed number to help with the information flow.
