Pilgrimage to Kedarnath has been halted at Sonprayag till further orders due to heavy rains in the Rudraprayag district, said District Magistrate Mayur Dixit on Sunday. “Kedarnath Yatra has been stopped till further orders at Sonprayag due to heavy rainfall in the Rudraprayag district,” Dixit said as reported by news agency ANI. Heavy rains have been lashing several districts of the hill state since morning disrupting traffic. A part of National Highway-34 and State Highway-77 was closed due to landslides on Sunday, said the District Disaster Management Authority at Tehri Garhwal. 


National Highway 34 Rishikesh- Chamba closed at Chacha Bhatija Hotel, Ananda bypass Patho, Chauki Plasda due to a landslide. State Highway 77 Narendranagar-Ranipokhari is closed at KM 8 due to a landslide, said DDMA on Sunday, as per the news agency. 






As per the India Meteorological Department, Haridwar has received 87 millimetres of rainfall in the last 24 hours while 33.2 millimetres of rainfall was recorded in the capital Dehradun and 27.7 millimetres in Uttarkashi.






Given the incessant rains, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached the State Disaster Control Room at the Secretariat in Dehradun where he reviewed the situation with the officers. 


“There is a possibility that monsoon may come in the next 5-6 days and an alert has also been issued (by the Meteorological Department). Had a meeting with officials today and directed them to be on alert mode and work in coordination,” the CM told the news agency.
