New Delhi: Around five people were reported dead and several others injured after an electric bus lost control and mowed down several bystanders near Tat Mill crossroad in Kanpur on Saturday, informed the local police. 


Several vehicles including three cars and several bikes were also damaged and destroyed in the bus accident. The driver of the bus has absconded and the police were looking for him, said Pramod Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Kanpur, as reported by news agency ANI. 






"Injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital and the probe in the matter has been initiated," DCP added.


President Ramnath Kovind offered his condolences to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery to injured persons. "Deeply saddened by the news of many casualties in the Kanpur bus accident. My deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in this incident. I wish the injured people a speedy recovery," the President tweeted. 


 






Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister expressed his sorrow. He added that instructions have been given to the administration to provide the injured people with all medical help. "The death of people in a road accident in Kanpur is very sad. May Almighty grant the departed souls a place at his feet and strength to the bereaved family members to bear this unfathomable loss. Instructions have been given to the administration to provide all possible medical aid to the injured," said UP CM.

Expressing her grief over the incident, Uttar Pradesh Congress President Priyanka Gandhi took to Twitter to offer condolences to the families of deceased persons. 


“Very sad news of road accident was received from Kanpur. My deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. I pray to God that the injured get speedy recovery,” she tweeted.
