Two infants were in critical condition on Tuesday after a group of men set fire to the home of a minor Dalit girl, whom two of them had allegedly gang raped last year, in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao. Among the injured were the victim’s six months old child, who was born after the accused impregnated the 11-year-old victim, and her two months old sister, said the police as per a PTI report. 


The two men, who were released on bail, allegedly barged into the family’s thatched shed with five others on Monday evening and beat up her mother, and set fire to the cottage, after the victim refused to withdraw the case, as per the report. 


According to the chief medical superintendent Sushil Srivastava, the victim’s infant son suffered 35 per cent burns while her sister sustained 45 per cent burns in the incident and were sent to Kanpur “as their conditions worsened.”

The victim’s father had also suffered injuries just days before and was admitted to the district hospital with serious injuries. 


Santosh Singh, Circle Officer, Purva told the news agency that the rape victim’s father was attacked with an axe by her grandfather and uncle, who had sided with the accused, and four other people on April 13 as per a a complaint filed by her mother.


The father is admitted to the district hospital with serious injuries, he said.


According to the police, the Dalit girl was gang-raped on February 13, 2022, after which she gave birth to a son in September of that year. The victim's mother also alleged that their house was set on fire to eliminate her daughter's infant son.
