Atiq Ahmed, Ashraf Ahmed Shot Dead In Pryagraj

Three assailants shot dead mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Khalid Azim alias Ashraf in Prayagraj on Saturday.

On April 15, the two brothers were shot while being escorted by about a dozen police officers for a routine medical checkup.

The former Samajwadi Party MP was killed hours after the last rites of his son Asad Ahmed, who was killed in a police encounter in Jhansi two days ago.

The shooting in Prayagraj was captured live on camera as media followed the handcuffed duo to the Calvin Hospital.

According to Police Commissioner Ramit Sharma, the assailants arrived on motorcycles dressed as media persons. They were able to approach the duo while pretending to record a news byte and fired at them from close range.

The police detained three alleged assailants on the spot. As he was being apprehended by police, one of the alleged attackers shouted the slogan "Jai Shri Ram."
