CM Yogi Adityanath Chairs High-Level Meet As Scorching Heat Kills Over 120 In A Week Across UP

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chairs a high-level meeting today in view of the deaths across the state due to persisting heat wave.

The scorching heatwave continues to wreak havoc across cities in the state of Uttar Pradesh where over 120 people have died due to severe heat in last one week. People are dying of heart and blood pressure issues, asthma, dehydration, vomitting among others, as told by hospital officials. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called a high-level meeting to review the situation after several deaths due to heat stroke were reported in the state. The meeting is being attended by the Chief Secretary, senior officials of the Health Department, Animal Husbandry and Relief and Disaster Department among others.

As for the number of deaths, 53 people died in Deoria in the past 24 hours due to severe heat. In Partapgarh, 18 people died in the last three days while 69 died in Ballia. Seven deaths were reported due to persisting heat stroke in Varanasi on Sunday.

Several state governments in northern India have extended the summer vacation in schools in view of the sizzling heat.

The school education department of Madhya Pradesh has made an announcement to extend the summer vacation due to the prevailing heatwave conditions, as informed by Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar. While classes for primary students will resume on July 1, classes for students from 6th to 12th grade will commence on June 20. The minister also stated that classes for students from 6th to 12th grade will be conducted in the morning shift from June 20 to June 30, and all schools in the state will revert to their regular schedules from July 1. Class 5 examinations will proceed as per the original schedule, he added.

Despite the onset of the monsoon earlier this week, all schools in Patna, Bihar will remain closed until June 24 due to the prevailing heatwave conditions. The district magistrate has issued an order prohibiting academic activities in all private and government schools up to Class 12, including pre-schools and Anganwadi centers, within the district. The decision has been taken to prioritize the safety and well-being of students in light of the intense heatwave, ensuring that they are not exposed to potentially harmful weather conditions.
