Lucknow: As the Congress continues to make efforts to revive its political fortunes across the country, the grand old party to the disappointment of many has now got embroiled in a banner controversy.

This took place ahead of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s visit to Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow. The Congress’ local unit put up big hoardings at the party headquarters ahead of the visit of Priyanka Gandhi, who was supposed to reach Lucknow on July 14.

The old hoardings were removed and replaced by a grand banner with Priyanka Gandhi’s photo. The banner had an enlarged photograph of Priyanka Gandhi without the images of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi with a rising sun and the party symbol in the backdrop. This gave rise to further speculations as to who will lead the party in the future.

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) chief Ajay Kumar Lallu dodged questions on the banner controversy. Lallu, however, earlier said that Priyanka Gandhi is the state Congress’ in-charge, and the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections will be fought under her leadership. He added that Rahul Gandhi resides in everyone's heart.
