Mayawati on Conversion Row: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) President Mayawati accused the BJP of giving political colour to the issue of religious conversion as a cover-up for its failure as administration and to gain ground in the assembly elections to be held in some states of the country. She said the action that is now being taken on this subject should have been taken long ago.
Mayawati said in a statement, "converting someone's religion by intimidation or by giving greed is completely illegal, and strict action should be taken against the culprits by getting such cases properly investigated. But forcibly making it a Hindu (versus) Muslim issue under the guise of a well thought out strategy and conspiracy and looking at the entire Muslim community with suspicion is not at all appropriate. The BSP will strongly oppose it."
The former Chief Minister said that it is being claimed that a conspiracy to harm the country under the guise of conversion was going on for a long time and if this is true then what were the intelligence agencies of the country doing so far. She said the action that is now being taken on this subject should have been taken long ago.
BJP's Political Interest More Visible: Mayawati
The BSP president alleged: "We see the political interest of the BJP behind this and it seems that now they want to give it a political colour to cover up their weaknesses in the assembly elections to be held in some states of the country. If this is really a conspiracy then it is highly condemnable."
Apart from this, Mayawati also said that most of the people whose property has been seized or demolished so far by the Yogi government citing mafia elements are of the Muslim community and this is creating a sense of insecurity in the community. However, she said this without mentioning anyone's name.
It is worth noting that the Yogi government has recently taken such action against BSP MLA from Mau, Mukhtar Ansari, and his associates.
