A 30-year-old man and employee of MLA Yogesh Shukla, identified as Shresth Tiwari, allegedly died by hanging himself at the official residence of BJP leader in Lucknow's Hazratganj area in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday night but no complaint has been received so far in the matter as the MLA is also out of station, reported news agency PTI. Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP) Arvind Kumar Verma said the motive behind the suicide is still not clear as further investigations are currently underway.
The deceased was working in the MLA's media team and belonged to the Barabanki district. The police officer further said the body was sent for post-mortem.
Talking to news agency ANI, BJP Leader Yogesh Shukla said, "Yesterday in the evening at 4 PM, I had a last-time conversation with him. After that, I asked him to leave as I was not well.”
He further said Tiwari had locked his door from the inside which made Shukla serious. Moreover, he got to know that his friends had gathered there and they were trying to open the door.
“I guess he indicated something in a video call. The mobile is with the police. In the MLA's residence, there are cameras at small distances, said the BJP leader.
He also said that the mobile would tell at what time whose call came and with whom he talked, and the cameras would reveal who entered the MLA's residence.
Commenting on the matter, DCP Central Aparna Kaushik was quoted as saying by ANI: "Last night around 1:45 AM, we got the information that a person whose name is Shresht Tiwari was living in MLA's residence. There, he committed suicide by hanging himself.”
She added that the field unit has already collected evidence on the ground and the body has been sent for postmortem as further investigation is underway.
