Prayagraj: The government staff has become active ever since ABP Ganga highlighted the matter regarding the burial of a large number of dead bodies on the banks of the Ganges in Prayagraj.

The Municipal Corporation team and other departments are continuously cremating the dead bodies that are being drawn out from the Ganges which are being washed away due to erosion.

In the last 15 days, around 70 bodies have been taken out of the graves and cremated. Preparations are being made to cremate dozens of bodies in the next 10 days to avoid them from flowing into the Ganges. Over a dozen bodies were cremated on Wednesday.

At present, this process is underway at the Phaphamau Ghat adjacent to the city. It is expected that the dead bodies buried on the banks of the Ganges on all other ghats will also be taken out of the graves and cremated in the same way.

Bodies Buried On Ghats Of Ganges

In the 'Sangam' city of Prayagraj, a large number of dead bodies were buried on the ghats of the Ganges. The bodies were buried in such large numbers that the banks of the Ganges were seen turning into graveyards.

In its report, ABP Ganga expressed apprehension that due to the rise in the water levels of the river and soil erosion the bodies may be flushed out of the graves and flow into the river, hence polluting the Ganges.

Apprehensions Turn Out To Be True

The apprehensions expressed by ABP Ganga turned out to be true as the water levels rose, soil from the Ganges bank started eroding and many dead bodies came out of the graves and into the mainstream of the river.

At Phaphamu Ghat, the situation was monitored by the Municipal Corporation, district administration monitoring committee, police, and SDRF. The work of cremating the dead bodies is going on under the supervision of the zonal officer of the Municipal Corporation, Neeraj Singh.

According to him, all the dead bodies along the riverbanks will be taken out from the graves and be cremated as per Hindu rituals with complete respect.
