Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has been witnessing very heavy rainfall for the past few days due to which the water level of the rivers crossing the state has increased. Officials have said that due to incessant rainfall major rivers are flowing near or above the danger mark and an alert was sounded in the low-lying districts of the state
UP districts that are under flood threat are Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Maharajganj, Deoria, Basti, Kushinagar, Siddhartha Nagar, Gorakhpur, Gonda, Sant Kabirnagar, Ballia, Barabanki, Sitapur, and Mau.
According to a report by PTI, the state government launched relief and rescue operations in flood-affected villages. A total of 242 flood protection centres and 222 flood posts were set up in various districts. The distribution of flood packets started in the affected villages and 58 teams of the health department were activated in the flood-affected districts.
According to a report by IMD, over 28 districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Rohilkhand regions have been put on alert for heavy to very heavy monsoon rains over till Monday.
The alert has been issued for Bahraich, Shravasti, Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Santkabir Nagar, Basti Gonda, Ballia, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Moradabad, Rampur, Amroha and Mau along with some parts of adjoining districts.
Meanwhile, other parts of the state are expected to witness normal rains in coming days. Uttar Pradesh recorded average rainfall of 5mm in the past few days/
