India vs England 4th Test, HIGHLIGHTS: India Beat England To Clinch Series 3-1, Confirm Berth In World Test Championship Final

Ind vs Eng, 4th Test: Indian cricket team defeated England by an innings and 25 runs in final Test at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium to clinch the four-match Test series 3-1 and seal a spot in the World Test Championship final, where they will take on New Zealand at the Lord's from June 18-22.

India beat England by an innings and 25 runs, seal series 3-1
Riding high on confidence, Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team on Saturday defeated England by an innings and 25 runs on Day 3 of the fourth and final Test at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium to clinch the four-match Test series 3-1 and seal berth in the World Test Championship final, where they will take on New Zealand at the Lord's from June 18-22.

 

Bowlers from both the teams delivered stand-out performances but India's veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and talented young off-spinner Axar Patel (last 5 innings 5/60, 6/38, 5/32, 4/68, 5/43*) picked up 17 wickets between them to bowl England out for 205 in their first innings and then 135 in the second.  Earlier in the day, a crucial knock from Washington Sundar (96*) and Axar Patel (43) helped India put 365 on board and extend their lead to 160.
Fine catch from Rahane departs Foakes for 13

A fine low catch from Ajinkay Rahane at first slips off Axar Patel's delivery sends Ben Foakes back to the pavilion for just 13. The Test match is on course for a Day 3 finish. England are now 7 down with this wicket and Axar takes his fourth wicket. 

England put 100 on board

England have managed to cross the 100-run mark in the second innings. England have lost 6 wickets and are on the verge of losing the match on Day 3. 

England nearing defeat

Looks like its all but over for hosts now. Six England players have returned to the pavilion with score not even reaching 100. Dan Lawrence (11) and Ben Foakes (1) are at the crease as they look to offer some resitance. Seems like an impossible task for England to pull themsleves back into the match.


England have reached ENG 83/6 after 31.1 overs and trail by 77 runs.

England have scored 44 runs after losing four wickets and are 115 runs behind India. Joe Root is batting on 20 with Ollie Pope, who has scored 3 runs so far. 

Axar Patel Gets the BIG FISH! 

England are in big trouble now. Axar Patel gets his 2nd wicket as he dismisses star all-rounder Ben Stokes for just 2. Stokes looked to play a paddle sweep but lacked the require power and ball lands straight into hands on India captain Virat Kohli. 

England are 3 DOWN now! 

England's third wicket falls within first 10 overs of their 2nd innigs. Dom Sibley makes his way back to the pavilion after scoring just 3 runs. He was caught by Pant off Akshar Patel's good delivery. All-rounder Ben Stokes is the new man in. England are 29/3 and trail by 131 runs.

R Ashwin takes 2 quick wickets

R Ashwin takes 2 quick wickets to put India on top! First he cleans up Zak Crawley, who is caught by Rahane off Ashwin's delivery for just 5 runs in 16 balls.  After Zak Crawley, Jhonny Bairstow was the next man in, but got out on the first ball he faced. England have put 10 runs on the scoreboard for loss of two wickets.

England at 6/0 at Lunch

England 205 & 6/0, trail India (365) by 154 runs. Washington Sundar missed out on a maiden Test hundred by 4 runs in India's commendable first innings score of 365 against England on day three. Sundar scored an unbeaten 96 off 174 balls. India lost their last three wickets in a space of five balls with Ben Stokes attacking from visitors side

India Bowled Out

Ben Stokes removes Ishant Sharma for a duck.Third wicket for Stokes. Sundar's century is in danger now.Stokes gets his fourth wicket. Siraj goes for a duck. Sundar is left stranded on 96 not out. He didn't get his maiden century.

India Dominates Day 3

The opening hour of Day 3 went great for the Indian team as Sundar and Axar have dominated the first hour with ease. England bowling are toiling hard to get rid of the duo but failed to do so. Sundar batting on 86, while Axar is unbeaten on 34 runs.

India Take Over 100 Runs Lead

Washington Sundar is currently adding more runs to India's increasing lead, and will be hoping to reach a ton on Day 3 of the fourth Test match, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India Lead by 89 runs at Stumps

Wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant played a sensational 101-run knock and stitched a solid 113-run partnership with all-rounder Washington Sundar to help India get a 89-run lead over England at Stumps on Day 2 of India vs England final and fourth Test.   

India's Lead Goes Past 80

Team India has so far faced 89 overs and scored 281 runs after losing seven wickets. Sundar has scored a fifty while his partner Axar Patel remains unbeaten on 6 runs. The hosts have a 80-plus lead over England in the first innings. Almost 20 minutes are left for the day's play. It looks like India will continue to bat on the third day as well.

Rishabh Pant's Sensational Innings Comes To An End

OUT! James Anderson has departed Rishabh Pant for 101 to put an end to his sensational innings. Axar Patel is the new man in and joins Washington Sundar in the middle. Pant, who scored his 3rd Test ton today, had failed to score a century on three occasions in the last 7 Tests. Pant's innings includes 13 fours and two sixes.

In-form Rishabh Pant scores maiden Test ton with a SIX. The talented young wicket-keeper batsman has scored his 3rd Test ton off just 115 deliveries. Pant and Sundar have added 100-plus runs for seventh wicket now as India lead England by 44 runs.

Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar Help India Go Past 200!

Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar have put up a solid stand by adding more than 60 runs for seventh-wicket. Their partnership has helped India go past the 200-run mark and take a 14 run lead. Rishabh Pant looks in excellent form and has scored 63 runs. India have four wickets in hand and have a good chance to take a significant lead of 70 or 80 runs by the end of day's play.

Left-handers Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar have completed a 50-run partnership for the seventh wicket. India have put 196 on board for loss of 6 wickets. Pant is batting on 55 while Sundar has scored 25 runs. The two players have once again pulled India backn into the match.

Stokes departs Ashwin for 13

England are taking wickets at regular intervals now. Stokes bowled a stunner to depart R Ashwin for 13 runs. Oli Pope takes a simple catch to break the crucial sixth-wicket partnership. All-rounder Washington Sundar comes out in the middle.


After 59 overs, India has reached 152 after loss of 5 wickets and trail England by 53 runs.

Team India suffered a major setback! Star opener Rohit Sharma was trapped in front of stumps, just when he was about to score his half-century. Rohit got LBW out for 49 runs off 144 balls. Ben Stokes got the big fish.

After losing early wickets, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant have managed to steady team India's sinking ship as runs are coming at a much quicker pace now. England are in search of a wicket and skipper Root, who took a maiden Test fifer in the pink-ball Test, has introduced himself into the attack. Rohit and Pant look in fine touch and are not letting England bowlers to settle.

India has lost a crucial wicket. Short of a length delivery from Stokes. Kohli surprised by the bounce, gets an edge and the ball straight goes straight into the keeper's gloves. Now, the responsibility falls on Rohit Sharma who has been keeping India at a steady place since the start of Day 2

India Trail By 181 Runs At Stumps

Axar Patel-led (4/68) lethal Indian bowling attack rattled the England batters to restrict them to just 205 runs on Day 1 of the India vs England fourth and final Test in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday. In reply to England's first innings total, India lost an early wicket in form of Shubman Gill (8) but still are in a strong position with Cheteshwar Pujara (15) and Rohit Sharma batting on crease as the duo will look to bat for as long as possible. At Stumps on Day 1, India are 24 for 1 and trail by 181 runs.

India bowl out England for 205

Team India's young sensational spinner Axar Patel-led (4/68) lethal Indian bowling attack rattled the England batters to restrict them to just 205 runs on Day of the India vs England fourth and final Test in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday.


India captain Virat Kohli rotated bowlers well to not allow England batsmen settle. India bowlers continued to strike at regular intervals to keep the visitors under pressure. 

IND vs ENG, 4th Test, Day 1 Update: England All Out At 205; Axar, Aswin Shine

England have managed to set a first innings score of 205 against host India on Day 1 of the fourth and final Test match, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. 


Despite Ben Stokes' half-ton, the visitors were bundled out in the 75th overs. Axar Patel one again destroyed England's top order, taking the wickets of Dom Sibley, Zak Crawley, Dan Lawrence, Dom Bess. 

Ashwin takes quick wickets to dent England

R Ashwin removed Ollie Pop And Ben Foakes In quick succession to dent England. First, Ashwin dismissed Ollie Pope for 29 to get his maiden wicket in Ind vs Eng 4th Test and later he cleaned up Ben Foakes for just 1 run, courtesy a great catch by Ajinkya Rahane. 

England 144/5 At Tea!

Ind vs Eng: In the second session, England lost the big wickets of Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow. A hard-fought fifty from Stokes has helped England reach 144/5. The visitors, after losing quick wickets in the first two sessions, will not be too disheartened by the post Lunch session as they added 70 runs! Ollie Pope and Daniel Lawrence remain unbeaten after a 23-run stand. Indian bowlers have put the hosts on top by taking 5 wickets in the first two sessions.

OUT! Washington Sundar dismisses Ben Stokes (LBW for 55). The star all-rounder departs after scoring a fighting 24th Test 50, and that too under immense pressure! Daniel Lawrence joines Ollie Pope at the crease. 

England in big trouble!

England's score has not even reached 100 yet on the scoreboard but the visitors have lost four wickets. Their first 3 wickets fell in the first session of Ind vs Eng Motera Test itself. Meanwhile, all-rounder Ben Stokes is displaying some top-quality batting as he has managed to look comfortable so far against the Indian bowling attack. Looks like he might be able to rescue his team by playing a big knock today! 

Ind vs Eng: Siraj strikes early after Lunch to remove well-set Jonny Bairstow

England are looking for a stable partnership after losing four wickets in quick succession against India, on Day 1 of Ind vs Eng Motera Test. Siraj picked his second wicket by dismissing Jonny Bairstow for 28 to break the solid 48-run promising stand between him and Ben Stokes. Ollie Pope has now joined all-rounder Ben Stokes in the middle as they look to steady their team's sinking ship. 

Background

India vs England final Test match of the four-match Test series started from Thursday i.e. March 4, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Indian cricket team will aim to secure a place in the ICC World Test Championship finals by sealing the series 3-1 to face New Zealand in the WTC Final at Lords.


Earlier, India vs England 3rd Test was also played on this ground, which surprisingly got wrapped up within the first two days. It was a Day/Night Test, played with a pink ball under the lights which was won by India by 10 wickets.


Both the first matches of the Ind vs Eng Test series were played at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.  The first Test was won by England by 227 runs. After which, India made a much-needed comeback to win the second Test by 317 runs and are currently leading the 4-match Test series 2–1.


England, on the other hand, has been eliminated from World Test Championship finals race, as the visiting team had to face defeat in the 3rd Test against India at Chennai.


New Zealand has already qualified for the finals. The World Test Championship will get a second finalist only after the result of India vs England fourth Test, played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera.
