The pivotal question looms: will India breach the 500-run mark, or can England orchestrate a swift cleanup? Eyes are on players like Crawley/Duckett to continue their strong series form or will India dismantle England's lineup like they did in the first innings and in Rajkot and Ranchi. A quick English collapse could see an early end to today's play.
Ben Stokes, a disappointment with the bat this series, showcased his prowess with the ball yesterday. Known for turning games around, can he muster one more batting performance to salvage England's pride? His commitment to making Test cricket entertaining and fiercely fought is evident. England have made minor comebacks earlier in the series but can they sign off on a similar high note in these improved batting conditions? Partnership Worth 40 Already between Kuldeep And Bumrah. Bashir bowling the penultimate over of the innings.
Last 3 Overs remaining in the day then. Wood into the attack. Bumah and Kuldeep have done well, adding invaluable runs in the partnership. Doens't seem to be a rush as far as declaration is concerned. Lots of time remaining in the match.
Kuldeep and Bumrah out in the middle for India.
Hartley Removes Jadeja and Ashwin in the same over to reduce India to 8 Down for 428.
Fourth wicket for Bashir. This time it's that of the wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel. The stumper goes for the big one but does not manage to clear long. He gets out caught for 15 off 24 deliveries. IND- 427/6 after 100.4 Overs. India's lead worth over 200 already.
Dhruv Jurel joins Ravindra Jadeja in the middle.
And there's the second wicket, two quick wickets falling in quick succession at the start of a session for the second time on Day 2. It's Bashir who gets rid of Padikkal whose stumps are rattled and he will walk back for 65 off 103 deliveries.
With Padikkal crossing the 50-run mark, this is the first time that each of India's top 5 have gotten to a half-century against England.
The two spinners Bashir and Hartley are the two spinners operating from the two ends at the moment.
Jadeja is the new batter in who has come at the fall of Sarfaraz.
Padikkal With Half-Century On Debut. Gets there with a six. It has taken him 83 balls to get to the landmark.
Wicket first ball. It's nothing more than a guide to the slip cordan where Joe Root accepts the catch. Not the kind of start India would have wanted. Sarfaraz Khan falls for 56 off 60. Shoaib Bashir produces the wicket. IND- 376/4 after 84.1 Overs.
India- 376/3 after 84 overs and it's Tea! Devdutt Padikkal- 44* off 77 balls. Sarfaraz Khan- 56* off 59 deliveries. Two wickets in that session with both Rohit and Gill getting out in quick succession but after that it has all been about the India. India lead by 158 runs.

The second new ball was taken and although it was Bashir who bowled the first over from it. Anderson was back for a second spell.
Gets to the half-century in 55 balls does Sarfaraz. He has upped the ante after getting set and India's lead is nearing 150. 148 at this stage to be precise. IND- 366/3 after 81 overs.
Mark Wood into the attack from the other end.
Hartley into the attack for England.
Three boundaries in that over off the bat of Devdutt Padikkal off James Anderson. First a loose drive which England wouldn't mind owing to the element of the risk with that full length but the next two dominant ones from the southpaw. 12 off the over. IND- 313/3 after 69 overs.
300 comes up for India in the 68th over. Their lead worth 82 runs.
Stokes and Anderson continuing for England at the moment after those two wickets in quick succession. Boundaries have come but not many of them with the ease and conviction with which they were coming when Rohit and Gill were batting together.
New man at the wicket is Sarfaraz Khan. A brilliant passage of play from India's point of view this.
India lose both the set batters in quick succession. This time it's James Anderson who gets rid of Shubman Gill. Yet again it's the top of off stump which has been disturbed by a peach of a delivery from the veteran pacer who moves to 699 Test scalps. India-279/3 after 62.2 Overs as Gill departs for 110 for 150.
Debutant Devdutt Padikkal walks in at 4.

What a way to bring up a century this!! Gill hits a boundary off Shoaib Bashir's bowl to reach his 4th Test hundred.
Century Number 12 for Indian captain Rohit Sharma! A captain's innings, indeed. He never let any bowler settle and threw them all off their lines and lengths.

England's vulnerability against high-quality spin was evident as Kuldeep Yadav's fourth five-wicket haul in Tests helped India bowl England out for 218 on day one of the fifth and final Test in Dharamshala. Opting to bat, England struggled, totally opposite with India's performance as they confidently reached 135 for one at stumps. The Indian openers are pretty clear with the way they go about their business. They have attacked everything that has come their way and as a result, India have got off to a flying start. Past the 50 mark already.
Mark Wood and James Anderson share the new ball for England. Anderson on 698 Test wickets.
Rohit, Jaiswal Open For India after England are all out for 218.
As easy as it comes. Ashwin gets the job done first over after tea. Gets rid of Foakes and Anderson and England are all out for 218 on Day 1. Ashwin finishes with a four-fer in the first innings of his 100th Test.
That's Tea on Day 1. England- 194/8 after 55 overs. What a session this for India. While England were in with a chance to dictate the terms in this match, they have imploded. All the wickets falling to spinners. Kuldeep has completed a fifer. Ashwin with 2 and Jadeja with 1. Seems like India will come out to bat in the final session on Day 1 unless Foakes and Bashir with Anderson to follow pull off something extraordinary.
As far as India are concerned, it's Jadeja and Ashwin who are bowling in tandem at the moment. India would now look to get England all out as soon as possible.
Ben Foakes, Shoaib Bashir In The Middle for England.
Remarkable turnaround this by India. Ashwin gets two wickets in the same over now. England are 8 down all of a sudden. First Stokes was removed by Kuldeep as he completed a fifer before Ashwin removed Hartly and Wood in the same over.
Ben Stokes and Ben Foakes out in the middle for England.
Jadeja gets a wicket and it's that of Joe Root. Missed that ball by a long way and decides againt reviewing it. Replays confirm it would have gone on to hit the leg stump. England 5 down for 175 in 44.2 overs.
Kuldeep has his man. It's Bairstow who falls prey to him this time. Another one of his turners that induced the edge and keeper Jurel makes no mistake. It's a googly that deceives the batter. On his 100th Test, Bairstow feels he hasn't nicked it and goes for the review but there is a spike on ultra edge and England lose their fourth wicket. England- 175/4 after 43.4 overs.
Jadeja had replaced Bumrah after the pacer's burst. The two spinners are operating in tandem at the moment.
Jonny Bairstow has joined Joe Root in the middle.
WICKET! Kuldeep Yadav gets the breakthrough for India and he has got rid of the set Zak Crawley for 79. Goes for the drive but it turns to beat the right-hander and rattles his stumps. ENG- 137/3 after 37.2 overs.
No success yet for Bumrah and Kuldeep operating in tandem in this spell. Root has scored a boundary while Crawley has added a couple more to his name in the early minutes of the second session.
Bumrah From The Other End for India. A move which was being anticipated because of the presence of Root.
Welcome back. It's Joe Root Zak and Crawley who resume England's innings in the post lunch session. Kuldeep Yadav with the ball in hand for India.
India squeezed another wicket just before Lunch on Day 1 as Kuldeep Yadav bagged his second wicket for the day in form of England's Ollie Pope. A googly from Kuldeep had Pope misreading the length of the ball completely leading him to miss the ball completely, wicth Dhruv Jurel completing the rest of the opportunities.
Ollie Pope falls victim to Kuldeep Yadav as he is stumped out. Kuldeep secures his second wicket, providing India with a crucial breakthrough right before the lunch break on day 1. ENG are 100-2 after 25.3 overs.
Zak Crawley brings up another half-century as he takes Kuldeep Yadav on and hits him for a boundary. ENG are 90-1 after 24 overs.
A spectacular catch by Shubman Gill send Ben Duckett packing. Kuldeep Yadav is brought into the attack for the first time and makes his presence felt straightaway as he gets Duckett to sky the ball high towards the cover region. Gill running backwards completes an excellent catch. Ollie Pope is the new batter in. ENG are 64-1 after 18 overs.
R Ashwin comes into the attack for the first time for India in his 100th Test, as he replaces Bumrah. Ben Duckett, though, is unfazed by Ashwin's class and reputation as he takes him on on the very second ball of the over and lap-sweeps him for a boundary. With that boundary, England cross the 50-run mark unscathed. ENG are 51-0 after 15 overs.
Siraj delivers to Crawley and there's a massive appeal for LBW. Although it seemed out, but considering Siraj's wide angle, it becomes a 50-50 decision. Umpire Joel Wilson shakes his head, Jurel is convinced, and Rohit Sharma opts for the review. After checking, no edge is found on the bat but the ball-tracking shows umpire's call. Crawley would breathe a sigh of relief. ENG are 43-0 after 12 overs.
England's Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett have struck some boundaries, a few coming off the edges though, and have established a good base for a long batting partnership that can put England in a good stead to win the Test. ENG are 35-0 after 10 overs.
Lots of oohs and aahs as there are a few play and misses for both, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett. But they survive, as England are off to a steady start. ENG are 16-0 after 6 overs.

Background
India vs England 5th Test, Dharamsala: After a long 10-day gap, India and England are poised to face off in the fifth and final Test of the ongoing five-match India vs England series in Dharamsala starting March 7 (Thursday). Despite a setback in the first IND vs ENG Test in Hyderabad, India, captained by Rohit Sharma, have secured the series with a commanding 3-1 lead. Meanwhile, England, led by Ben Stokes, have been unable to replicate their previous series successes and are facing their first series loss under Stokes' leadership.
While the 5th IND vs ENG Test may be considered a dead rubber in terms of the series outcome, it holds significance as World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points are still up for grabs. Additionally, it marks the 100th Test for both Ravichandran Ashwin and Jonny Bairstow, adding a special milestone to the match. Beyond statistical milestones, players from both teams have individual points to prove, making the contest relevant and compelling despite the series already being decided.
Rajat Patidar, despite boasting a first-class average in the mid-40s, has struggled to perform up to expectations in the three Tests thus far. He will be eager to finish the series on a positive note and showcase his abilities at the international level. On the other hand, Jonny Bairstow has shown glimpses of promise but has failed to capitalise on his starts.
Following his rest in the previous game, Bumrah is set to make a comeback to the playing XI for the fifth IND vs ENG Test. Akash Deep showcased an impressive and fiery spell on Day one in Ranchi. Despite the pitch offering minimal assistance, Akash effectively utilised whatever moisture was available, creating trouble for the English batters with his adept seam positions. As a result, he stands as a strong contender to retain his place in the team, potentially replacing Mohammed Siraj in the playing XI.
India predicted XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khah, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep
England confirmed XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (C), Ben Foakes (WK), Tom Hartley, Mark Wood, Shoaib Bashir, James Anderson.
