Mizoram Election 2023:Today on NEWay we turn our attention to the northeastern state of Mizoram. The state is gearing up for its much-anticipated Assembly Elections slated sometime between for October and November 2023, the final dates are yet to be confirmed by the Election Commission of India (ECI).Mizoram will cast its votes alongside Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Madhya Pradesh, making it an integral part of this electoral period.Now let's come to the list of constituencies. Mizoram has 40 Assembly constituencies. In the last Assembly elections held in 2018, the Mizo National Front (MNF) had clinched the majority, securing 27 seats. The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) had emerged as the primary opposition with 6 seats, while national parties like the Congress and BJP secured 6 and 1 seat, respectively.Notably, the voter turnout in Mizoram during the 2018 Assembly elections was an impressive 80.15% Expectations run high this time for an even more enthusiastic participation in the upcoming 2023 elections, as the ECI has registered approximately 40,934 new voters in the electoral list.Furthermore, there has been another here's a significant development in the political scenario of the state. The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has formed a strategic alliance with the Hmar People’s Convention (HPC). Under this alliance the HPC will not field any of its candidates but will throw its full support behind the ZPM.Finally, a historical possibility looms on the horizon in Mizoram if the current CM Zoramthanga secures victory this time which will make him the longest-serving leader in Mizoram's history.So, as the electoral fervor continues to build, Mizoram promises to be a state to watch in the upcoming months.
