The fear of coronavirus is far from over, yet a new virus is emerging as a serious threat. Named Oropouche, or Sloth Fever, this virus currently has no vaccine or cure. Originating from the Amazon, it has now spread to five countries, with 8,000 reported cases worldwide. The virus is transmitted through insect bites, and while human-to-human transmission has not been confirmed, it could potentially affect the brain and liver if it occurs. Symptoms resemble those of dengue and chikungunya, and there have been two recent deaths attributed to this virus. The situation highlights the urgent need for attention and research to address this growing health concern.
