Stroke Is Fourth Leading Cause Of Death In India, Global Cases Projected To Increase By 50 Per Cent By 2050

Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death and the fifth leading cause of disability in India, according to a February 2022 study published in the International Journal of Stroke. 

Strokes are a cardiovascular disease that can lead to sudden bleeding in the brain. A stroke or a brain attack can occur when blood supply to a part of the brain is blocked, or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts, as a result of which parts of the brain become damaged or die. An ischemic stroke is one in which blood flow to the brain is blocked, as a result of which the brain cannot receive oxygen and nutrients from the blood.
