IISER Researchers Develop Drug Development Technique Of Attaching Chemical Tags To Proteins Without Loss Of Function

Chemical tags are used to label proteins. The novel process can be used to attach proteins to fluorescent chemical tags to visualise them inside cells. Drugs can be attached to antibody proteins.

Researchers from the Indian Institute of Scientific Education and Research (IISER) have developed a novel drug development technique that can help link chemical tags to proteins while ensuring that the proteins do not lose their function. Chemical tags are used to label proteins. They are beneficial because one can attach the protein of interest to a polypeptide, say, a fluorescent protein. Protein-based chemical tags are used to overcome the selectivity limitations of a short peptide tag. In
