New Delhi: Horrific start to the day, a storey building collapsed in Harihar compound in Dapoda, Bhiwandi, Mumbai.  The building served as a warehouse, at least 10 labourers are suspected to be trapped under the debris. Fire brigade rushed at the scene and the rescue operation is underway.

According to PTI, the building collapsed at around 10.30 am in Harihar Compound at Mankoli Naka in Bhiwandi. Thane civic body's regional disaster management cell chief Santosh Kadam told PTI "It is feared that at least seven to eight labourers working in the godown are trapped under the debris." He also added, that Personnel of the Thane district rescue force, disaster management cell, and fire services officials from Bhiwandi and Thane have rushed to the spot and that they have also sought assistance from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).



Late last month, a fire broke at the MIDC area and it was the second unfortunate incident of fire in less than a week after five men had died in a fire at five-storeyed under-construction building in the Serum Institute of India's Manjari premises in Pune. Last year in September, ten people lost their lives after a three-storied building collapsed in Bhiwandi. The incident took place at around 3:30 am and around 21 flats collapsed while most of the residents were sleeping. This was a month after, two persons were killed and five others were injured when a four-storey building collapsed in the Shantinagar area in Bhiwandi in August 2020.
