With pre-launch bookings open for Rs 11,000 and launch around the corner, we assess whether the upcoming Marazzo will be priced within your budget

Mahindra’s upcoming MPV is scheduled for a 3 September 2018 launch. And being a Mahindra, we expect a competitive price tag which should stack it between its two prime rivals, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta. But how competitive could the prices actually be?  We assess.

The Mahindra Marazzo will follow the brand’s usual nomenclature and should be sold in a choice of four variants- M2, M4, M6 and the top-spec M8 variant. It will be available with 7- or 8-seat layout with features such as ABS with EBD and brake assist, dual airbags and ISOFIX mounts as standard. The higher variants will receive projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, 17-inch dual-tone glossy alloy wheels, leatherette seat upholstery, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and roof-mounted AC unit, among others. The yet unrevealed features should be similar to the ones found on the XUV500.

Mahindra is going to bring only a diesel engine initially with the Marazzo. While Mahindra calls it a “virtually new” engine, we expect it to be a reworked version of the 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder engine in its portfolio.

Now, let’s move on to the expected prices.

Variant

Prices

Marazzo M2

Rs 9.75 lakh

Marazzo M4

Rs 10.25 lakh

Marazzo M6

Rs 11.25 lakh

Marazzo M8

Rs 11.95 lakh

Maruti’s 2018 Ertiga should command a premium over the outgoing model due to the added features. But for the sake of comparison, we are using the current Ertiga’s prices along with the Innova Crysta’s diesel variants.

Maruti Ertiga

Toyota Innova Crysta

LDI- Rs 8.78 lakh

2.4 GX (8-seater)- Rs 15.51 lakh

LDI (O)- Rs 8.86 lakh

2.8 GX AT (8-seater)- Rs 16.81 lakh

VDI - Rs 9.57 lakh

2.4 VX (8-seater)- Rs 18.40 lakh

ZDI- Rs 9.95 lakh

2.4 ZX- Rs 20.27 lakh

ZDI+- Rs 10.69 lakh

2.8 ZX AT- Rs 21.57 lakh

To hit the sweet spot, prices of the base variant of the Mahindra Marazzo should overlap with the top-spec variant of the upcoming second-gen Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, while its top-of-the-line variant should undercut the base-spec Toyota Innova Crysta. For now though, we just wait for 3 September.
