33 Ministers Take Oath in Tamil Nadu

The new Water Resources Minister is veteran DMK leader Duraimurugan, who is a former minister and a six-time MLA from Katpadi in Vellore district. The post is a critical one for a state that frequently suffers from drought.


The Finance portfolio - another critical post - has been given to Palanivel Thiagarajan, a former investment banker who worked in the United States.


S Regupathy has been given the Law Ministry, Thangam Thennarasu the Industries portfolio, K Ponmudi will be Higher Education Minister, EV Velu will head Public Works and S Muthusamy will be the Housing and Urban Development Minister.

Stalin Changes Name Of Ministries

A separate ministry called 'Water Resources Department' is being set up to meet the water needs of Tamil Nadu.


The Department of Agriculture has been renamed as "Agriculture - Agrarian Welfare Department" as it is the Government's objective to safeguard the interests of farmers.


The Department of Environment is renamed the 'Environment - Climate Change Department' to raise awareness about the environmental effects of climate change.

MK Stalin To Take Oath As Tamil Nadu CM Shortly

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president and legislature party leader MK Stalin is set to take oath as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu today.  Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purhohit will administer the oath of office to Stalin and his Council of Ministers. The swearing-in will be a simple function held at the Raj Bhavan at 9 am due to the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Stalin Swearing-in: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu today. Governor Banwarilal Purohit appointed MK Stalin as Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister on Wednesday and invited him to form the government after he staked claim, submitting a letter on his election as legislature party leader.


MK Stalin's swearing-in ceremony will be held at 9 am on May 7 in the Raj Bhavan premises.


The DMK won 133 seats in the just-concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly election, and along with allies, including Congress, the alliance has a total seat strength of 159 in the 234-member Assembly.


The AIADMK won 66 seats and its allies the BJP and the PMK, four and five seats respectively.


According to a list released by the DMK, party president MK Stalin, who will take oath as the eighth chief minister of Tamil Nadu on Friday, will hold several key portfolios, including the crucial home department. Stalin's other portfolios include welfare of specially-abled persons, public, general administration, and appointment and transfer of IAS and IPS officials in the state.


However, Stalin's son Udhayanidhi, who became a first-time MLA, did not figure in the list released by the party, which is headed by his father.
