Monsoon Session HIGHLIGHTS: The Opposition and Centre are locked in a standoff on discussion over the snooping issue in the house. Since the session began, only a handful of bills have been passed.
After much ruckus, Rajya Sabha gave a nod to Inland Vessel's Bill today and the house has been adjourned till 3rd August 11am. The General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Amendment Bill, 2021' has been passed in Lok Sabha and the house has been adjourned for the day.
After huge uproar in Rajya Sabha over the Inland Vessel's Bill proposed by Sarbanand Sonowal in the House, the session has been adjourned till 3:36pm.
Amid uproar by the opposition in Rajya Sabha, the house is discussing the Inland vessel's Bill by the Centre. The Inland Vessels Bill, 2021 that was passed by Lok Sabha on July 21, will help domestic cargo movement with potentially lower rates, which is expected to help small businesses.
The proposed law is in line with the Narendra Modi government’s aim to develop inland ports and harness India’s 7,500km coastline and potentially navigable waterways.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam on Monday moved to withdraw a bill to further amend The Cinematograph Act, 1952, The Customs Act 1962, Airports Authority of India Act, 1994 and other such acts.

Lok Sabha adjourned till 2 pm amid uproar by Opposition MPs, demanding a discussion on the 'Pegasus Project' media report.
Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 12 noon on Monday amid protest by Opposition members over the Pegasus snooping controversy and other issues.
Speaker Om Birla asked the protesting members to raise issues of public interest rather than sloganeering and urged them to go back to their seats.
"You all are respectable members representing lakhs of people This House is for discussion... I will give you time (for discussion)," Birla said.
Notwithstanding Opposition protests, the Question Hour went on for over 30 minutes and more than seven questions were taken up along with supplementaries.
As Opposition members continued with their protest, Birla adjourned the House for about 25 minutes till 12 noon.
As soon as the House met for the day, Speaker Birla, on behalf of the House, congratulated shuttler P V Sindhu on winning a medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
The Speaker noted that she is the first Indian woman athlete to win two individual medals at Olympics. He congratulated her for the "historic achievement" and also expressed hope that Sindhu's win will be an inspiration for youngsters.

Parliament Monsoon Session HIGHLIGHTS: After another week of washout, opposition parties are likely to continue protests seeking a response from the Centre over Pegasus snoop gate issue. Today's agenda in both the houses will be: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to move a bill for the maintenance of essential defence services for India’s security in the Lok Sabha.
Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will move the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2021, which seeks to abolish tribunals or authorities under various laws by amending various statutes to streamline the justice delivery system.
In Rajya Sabha, Sarbanda Sonawal will move a bill to promote economic and safe transportation and trade through inland waters. A report on “Attracting Investment in a post-covid-19 economy” in the country will also be laid on the floor.
Rajya Sabha leaders of “like-minded” Opposition to met at 10:15 am on Monday. The meeting happened at Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge's office, to chalk out the strategy for the day's proceedings of the House.
