In an unprecedented move, 78 MPs were suspended from Parliament on Monday. However, this is not the first time. In 1989, 63 MPs were suspended in a single day.
As many as 78 MPs were suspended from the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha Monday for disrupting House proceedings, making it the highest single-day suspension. This took the total number of MPs suspended from Parliament for the remainder of the Winter Session to 92. The suspensions have stirred up a political slugfest with the Opposition calling the move "murder of democracy" and claiming that the Centre wants an 'Opposition-Less' Parliament.
