One more body of a 4-year-old girl was recovered from Shimla's Summer Hill area, taking toll of bodies recovered to 19, says Shimla SP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been reported in various districts of Himachal Pradesh in last 24 hours including Mandi, Kangra, Shimla, and Sirmaur whereas light to moderate rainfall has been reported in most areas of the state, says IMD Scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma.
"Speaking amount-wise, 154 mm of rainfall was recorded in Joginder Nagar, 136 mm in Palampur, and 70 mm in Sirmaur. In Shimla city, 80 mm of rain was recorded in the last 24 hours... There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in parts of the districts of Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Mandi, Kullu, Una, Bilaspur and Kangra. We have issued a yellow alert for 24 and 25 August... From 26 August, the weather will change. Districts of plains and middle areas will receive light to moderate rains... From 26 to 30 August, the activity will reduce... From June till August, Himachal Pradesh has received 41% more rainfall than usual. The recorded rainfall is 804mm. Normal is 571 mm. Only Lahaul Spiti has received less rainfall than usual... Shimla has the most departure of 103%. Bilaspur has seen 86% more rainfall. August saw 10% more rainfall than usual and the most was in Mandi and Bilaspur."
Himachal Pradesh Revenue and Disaster Management Principal Secretary Onkar Chand Sharma says 361 people have been killed so far due to the devastation caused by heavy rains in the state while 40 people are still missing.
Over 12,000 houses have been damaged, out of which 2200 have been completely destroyed, he adds.
A 21-year-old man in Jammu and Kashmir is feared to have drowned in River Tawi in the Dibber area. Addl. SP Udhampur Anwar Ul Haq while talking to ANI said, "We got information about this at around 5 pm. Immediately NDRF and Police reached here and started the rescue operation. NDRF conducted a search operation through its boat and divers but the person has not been traced. Search operation underway."
Following very rainfall in part of Himachal Pradesh, water made its way toward the Indira Gandhi Medical College & Hospital in Shimla. In the visual shared by ANI, stagnant water could be seen on the floor inside the hospital.
"We have appealed to people to not travel during the night hours. We have asked people living in landslide-prone areas to vacate their houses. For this, we issued a toll-free number," Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on rain alert.
Streets in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, turn into torrents as persistent heavy rainfall causes flooding, posing challenges for the city's infrastructure and residents.
An orange alert has been raised for Assam and Meghalaya as heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in isolated areas from August 23 to 26. The public is advised to exercise caution, steering clear of waterlogged zones and areas susceptible to landslides.

Educational Institutions Close In Himachal Pradesh:
Heavy overnight rains trigger landslides in Himachal Pradesh, causing fatalities, blocking roads, and damaging houses. Migrant Jhalo and wife Rajkumari found dead in a makeshift Baldeyan house. Shimla's Superintendent of Police, Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, urges residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
The 10-day rain-related toll in Shimla district climbs to 26, including 17 in Summer Hill landslide, five in Fagli, and two in Krishna Nagar. Landslides also damage houses in Solan district.
Uttarakhand's Pindar River Swells, Threatening Tharali Town:
Pindar and Pranmati rivers surge, raising flood concerns in Tharali town, Uttarakhand's Chamoli district. Heavy rains cause intermittent spates since August 13, damaging nearby areas. Fresh Spell Of Rain Lashes Parts Of Delhi-NCR:
Delhi recorded a fresh spell of rain Wednesday morning and more showers are predicted during the day.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert, predicting moderate rain in parts of the city. The city may see light rain on Thursday, but it will have little effect on the maximum temperature, which is expected to hover around 35-36 degrees Celsius for the next four to five days, according to the MeT office's forecast.
High humidity levels, on the other hand, may be inconvenient for city dwellers.In the last four months, Delhi has received more rain than usual, and the total precipitation this year has already surpassed the yearly quota of 774 mm.
