West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday launched a veiled attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union minister Amit Shah saying the Indian cricket team won all the matches in the ICC T20 Mens’ World Cup this year except for the one attended by “sinners”.

India lost the World Cup finals to Australia held on Sunday at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi stadium. The match was attended by PM Modi and Amit Shah.

“Indian cricket team won all matches in the World Cup except the one attended by 'sinners',” said the Trinamool Congress chief on Thursday while addressing party workers at Kolkata's Netaji Indoor Stadium.

“India would have won if World Cup final happened in Kolkata or Mumbai," she added.

Further attacking the saffron party, the Bengal CM said: "They even tried to saffronise the team by introducing saffron practice jerseys. The players resisted, and as a result, they did not have to wear those jerseys during the matches."

She also took a dig at the BJP saying the central agencies who are at present targeting leaders of the opposition parties  will be after the BJP following the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

"Central agencies targetting opposition leaders at present will go after the BJP following the 2024 elections," she told party workers, adding: "This government at the Centre is there for three more months."

Speaking for the first time on the cash-for-query case concerning her party MP Mahua Moitra, the CM said that after the arrest of her party's leaders in different cases, the expulsion of MP Mahua Moitra was being planned but it would eventually help her before the elections.
