New Delhi: According to the India Meteorological Department, following a short relief on New Year's Day, cold wave conditions resumed in Delhi on Wednesday as chilly winds from the Himalayas swept down the plains. The temperature in Delhi dropped to season's lowest at 4.4 degrees Celsius
At least 21 trains to Delhi were delayed for a few hours due to the fog, according to a Railways spokesperson. An official at the international airport said that five flights were diverted to Jaipur on Monday night due to bad weather in the national capital.
Shallow fog blanketed portions of the city early in the morning, making it difficult to see and slowing traffic. The thick to extremely dense fog that settled over the plains and the neighbouring central and eastern areas of the nation disrupted both rail and aviation travel, as reported by the news agency PTI.
“Due to fog and low cloud cover, severe cold day conditions were observed over Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. Cold day conditions were observed over some pockets of Delhi and isolated areas in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh," said IMD officials The IMD predicts that the national capital will see moderate to intense fog for the next two days and that the cold wave will return this weekend.
It also predicted that the thick to extremely dense fog and chilly day conditions that have been prevalent in the northwest of India for the last few days would persist for at least another four or five days. Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab are just a few of the states that fall within this category.
If the temperature in the plains falls below four degrees Celsius, or if it rises beyond ten degrees Fahrenheit, the meteorological service will issue a cold wave warning.
Weather Office Issues 'Orange Alert' For Several Districts In Rajasthan Due To Severe Cold And Fog
An 'Orange Alert' for an extreme cold wave in several districts, including Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Sikar, has also been issued by the weather office, as reported by PTI. Rajasthan’s Fatehpur recorded the lowest minimum temperature at minus 1 degree Celsius on Monday night due to severe cold and fog.
The minimum temperature was minus 0.9 degrees in Churu on Monday night, 2.4 degrees in Sangaria, 2.6 degrees in Pilani, 3.0 degrees in Sikar, 3.7 degrees in Ganganagar, 4.5 degrees in Nagaur, 4.9 degrees in Chittorgarh. Bikaner recorded a minimum temperature of 6.9 degrees Celsius, according to the Met department,
The Regional Meteorological Centre here said there was dense fog in some parts of eastern and northern Rajasthan in the morning. In Jaipur, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 20.8 and 5.3 degrees Celsius, respectively, PTI reported.
