Cyclone Nisarga in Mumbai: Cyclone Nisarga has made landfall near Alibaug on the Maharashtra coast with super-speed wind of ranging between 120-140 kmph. The "process" will be completed by about 4 pm, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday. Gusty winds, torrential rains, and high tide marked the arrival of the severe cyclonic storm. The landfall process started around 12.30 pm. It made landfall about 40 km from Alibaug, 95 km from Mumbai.

JUST IN | In the wake of Cyclone Nisarga, 6 flights were diverted and 1 was cancelled after weather conditions worsened at Pune Airport, Maharashtra today, news agency ANI quoted Airport Director as saying.
Meanwhile, Gujarat heaved sigh as Cyclone Nisarga did not cause any major damage on the southern coast of the state on Wednesday afternoon and evening following landfall near Alibaug in Maharashtra. Luckily, the cyclonic storm passed without any major incident and casualties.




The Gujarat government had evacuated over 63,700 people from coastal areas of eight districts and 18 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and six teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed for rescue operations.

Over 40,000 people living near sea coast in Mumbai have been shifted to safer places as cyclone Nisarga makes landfall in Maharashtra. 10 sailors rescued from a ship that was stranded off the Ratnagiri coast in Maharashtra due to high tide and heavy rains. Around 1,500 people were evacuated and shifted to sturdy shelter in Alibaug in Raigad district.
Speaking to reporters at the state secretariat, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that that despite the passage of the cyclone Nisarga off the Goa's coast, the state could continue to see heavy rainfall over the next couple of days.




"There will be heavy rains for two to three days. I believe it (cyclone) has passed Goa. But it is expected to rain for a couple of days," Sawant told reporters.
Meanwhile, mobile network services have been disrupted in some parts of Raigad district in the Konkan region of Maharashtra due to devastatingt cyclone Nisarga, news agency ANI quoted Nidhi Choudhari, District Magistrate as saying.




After a wait of 72 hours, Cyclone Nisarga made a thumping landfall at Shriwardhan-Dive Agar in Raigad district, hitting coastal Maharashtra with full fury.

Mumbai Airport Shut Till 7 PM



Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport witnessed a runway excursion today with FedEx flight 5033 arriving from Bengaluru. The incident occurred when the MD11 aircraft landed on runway 14/32. The aircraft was towed away from the runway and there has been no disruption in flight operations.



In consultation with AAI, considering the strong crosswinds, it has been decided that no arrivals and departures will take place between 14:30-19:00 hrs.



Till 19:00 hrs, no take-off or landings would take place at the airport due to Cyclone Nisarga, an official announcement by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport read.

Cyclone: Animals shifted to safer place in Mumbai zoo



Amid fear of tress uprooting due to cyclonic storm

'Nisarga', all carnivorous animals in Mumbai zoo have been shifted to holding areas in their enclosures to keep them safe from rain and strong winds, an official said on Wednesday.



A zoo emergency response team is on alert to avoid any untoward incident, he said.

Since the city has been experiencing rain, authorities at the Veermata Jijabai Udyan, also popularly known as Byculla Zoo which is spread over an area of 50 acres,are taking all steps to protect the animals against the rough weather and avoid any damage due to tree falls.

New Delhi: In the latest update by the IMD for cyclone Nisarg which is expected to hit Mumbai a few hours from now, the weather department has said that  Cyclone 'Nisarga' is approaching North Maharashtra coast with a speed of 13 kmph during past 06 hours. It is 155 km south-southwest of Alibag and 200 km south-southwest of Mumbai.

The weather department has also alerted everyone that the eye of the cyclone is visible on the radar now and heavy clouds can be seen around Maharashtra coast.





The storm is likely to impact Mumbai, Thane and other coastal districts like Raigad and Palghar along with Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Bhavnagar and Bharuch districts of Gujarat and Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

As the cyclone is approaching closer to Mumbai the city has been witnessing heavy rainfall since Tuesday evening.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the chief ministers of Maharashtra and Gujarat on Tuesday evening and assured them of all help from the Centre. He also spoke with the administrator of Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli Praful K Patel, said a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.

Maharashtra and Gujarat are on Red Alert and have been preparing to handle the severe cyclonic storm.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's Office (CMO) has listed some of the measures being taken. These include evacuating those staying in thatched huts. 'Slum dwellers in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, particularly those in low-lying areas, have been asked to evacuate,' the CMO said. Non-COVID-19 hospitals have been instructed to prepare for any medical emergencies. The state is also taking measures in case of breaks in electricity supply and to secure the nuclear power plant in Palghar district.

CM Uddhav has also imposed section 144 in the coastal areas of Maharashtra and has deployed police force around Gateway Of India

NDRF has deployed 40 teams in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Rescue and relief teams of the Indian Army and the Indian Navy along with ships and aircraft of the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force have been put on standby. Ships of the Indian Coast Guard are already engaged in rescuing fishermen at sea.

In Gujarat, the administration has started evacuating over 78,000 people from four districts close to the coastline, officials said on Tuesday. Thirteen teams of the NDRF and six of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed at different locations.

In a relief to people living near the shore, the IMD indicated the cyclone may not make landfall on the Gujarat coast.
