Nitin Gadkari became the latest minister to test positive for Covid-19. Gadkari said he had mild symptoms. "I have tested positive for Covid-19 today with mild symptoms. Following all the necessary protocols, I have isolated myself and I am under home quarantine. I request all those who have come in contact with me to isolate themselves and get tested," Gadkari tweeted.

Karnataka Chief Minister Office (CMO) on Tuesday informed that the Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai, who tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, held a virtual meeting on COVID situation today. The meeting decided to authorise DCs of respective districts to take a call on closing schools based on the number of cases.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who tested positive for COVID-19, is recovering well, a government spokesperson said. The ICMR's National Task Force for Covid-19 has decided against including antiviral drug Molnupiravir in the Clinical Management Protocol for Covid-19 as of now, a PTI report said quoting official sources. The pill was approved by the Drug Regulator General of India last month for restricted use in emergencies.
Last week, ICMR chief Dr Balram Bhargava said that Molnupiravir had major safety concerns. "It can cause teratogenicity, mutagenicity and cartilage damage. It can damage the muscles also," he said.
The Uttar Pradesh government has restricted attendance of employees in government and private offices to 50%. If anyone at a private office tests positive for Covid-19, he or she should be given seven days' leave with salary and Covid help desks should be established in all the offices and no one should be given entry without screening, the order said.

A total of 44 COVID-19 vaccine vials were stolen by the burglars from a primary health centre in Kalikhabar in the Old City Hyderabad
The police said that 24 vials of Covishield and 17 vials of Covaxin. The burglars also stolen two computers and stationary items and other articles.
According to the police, the burglars broke open the main door of the UPHC Jambagh on the Kalikhabar road under the Mirchowk police station limits.
"From the stolen vials, 340 Covishield doses and 270 Covaxin vials could be given," the Mirchowk police said adding the burglars also removed the tyres of an auto-rickshaw that was parked on the UPHC premises and took them away.
Based on the complaint of the hospital staff, the police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Coronavirus Highlights: India saw a slight decline in daily Covid-19 cases, with 1,68,063 people testing positive for the virus while 277 succumbed to the infection in the past 24 hours, according to Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data. The fresh infections were 6.4 per cent less than Monday, when the country logged 1,79,723 cases.
The Omicron tally has climbed to 4,461. However, 1,711 have been discharged from hospitals.
Earlier in the day, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar tested positive for Covid-19 with mild symptoms and was admitted to the ICU of Breach Candy hospital in south Mumbai.
Meanwhile, in a letter to states and Union Territories, the Centre has said five to 10 per cent of the active Covid-19 cases required hospitalisation so far.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, however, said the situation was dynamic and might change rapidly. The Centre asked states to keep a watch on cases under home isolation and in hospitals.
"In the present surge, five to 10 per cent of active cases needed hospitalisation so far. The situation is dynamic and evolving. Therefore, the need for hospitalisation may also change rapidly," Bhushan said.
During the devastating second wave last year, the hospitalisation rate was in the range of 20-23 per cent, the letter to states said.
In the letter, Bhushan said the spike in Covid-19 cases appeared to be driven by the Omicron variant as well as by the continued presence of Delta.
The government asked the states to augment human resources, particularly healthcare workers, for Covid management.
