Coronavirus Highlights: As per the latest Health Bulletin, Delhi reports 27,561 Covid cases, second-highest daily rise so far, and 40 deaths.
More than 26,19,670 precaution doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered to healthcare workers, frontline workers and those aged 60 and above with comorbidities since January 10, the Union Health Ministry said.
Meanwhile, India's Covid vaccination coverage crossed 154.50 crore on Wednesday, with more than 66 lakh vaccine doses being administered till 7 pm. Also, 2,96,94,734 first doses have been given to beneficiaries in the 15-18 years age group so far.
Maharashtra recorded 46,723 fresh coronavirus cases on Wednesday, a jump of 12,299 infections from a day ago, and 32 fresh fatalities, the health department said. The new cases included 86 Omicron infections, it said in a bulletin.
The Delhi government on Wednesday said vaccination centers would be opened for 15-18 age group in schools where health clinics were operational.
Maharashtra reports 86 Omicron cases today.
Tamil Nadu reports 17,934 new cases, 4,039 recoveries, and 19 deaths, in the last 24 hours.

"After a review meeting by PM Modi over COVID situation, we have revised our discharge policy with severity categorised into mild and moderate cases. Mild case discharge after at least 7 days from testing positive & non-emergency for 3 successive days, no need for testing prior to discharge. In the latest update, at least 481 resident doctors have tested COVID-19 positive in Maharashtra. ANI quoting Dr Avinash Dahiphale, president, Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors reports that 481 resident doctors have tested covid positive so far in the state.
Ten cases of Omicron were detected in J&K which includes three non-local travellers, taking the tally of total detected cases to 13 in J&K, officials said on Tuesday. Officials confirmed that the first case of Omicron was detected in Kashmir on Monday while four more were detected on Tuesday.
He said that three of the five detected cases include three non-local travellers whose samples were taken in Anantnag and they have already returned back.
Health officials said that the person from Shopian and a pregnant lady from Uri who were detected positive for Omicron are stable and have recovered as well.
"Robust teams are working to trace contact of the two persons who have been tested positive for Omicron," an official said.
He said that we are working to find out with whom people have met since a person tested positive for Covid-19 and later omicron.
While giving details of cases, he said that three tourists whose samples were detected positive for Omicron include a 19-year -old male and a 22-year-old female from Maharashtra, and a 40-year-old male from Gujarat and their samples were taken from 22 December and 26 December respectively.
He said that a sample of a pregnant lady from Dhani Syden, Baramulla was taken on December 20, while details of a person from Shopian where the sample was detected positive for omicron on Monday were not known.
Dr Shashi Sudan Principal GMC Jammu said that five fresh cases of omicron were detected in the Jammu division on Tuesday whose samples were taken last month.
Officials said that among one two belongs to Channi Himmat Jammu and one from Canal road Jammu.
It is pertinent to mention here that earlier three cases of Omicron were detected in Jammu including two women from Saraswati Vihar in Talab Tillo Bohri and a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya Bantalab, however, all three patients had already recovered.

Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar tested positive for Covid-19 with mild symptoms. Lata Mangeshkar has been admitted to the ICU of Breach Candy hospital in south Mumbai and is said to be doing well.
"I have tested positive for Covid-19 today with mild symptoms. Following all the necessary protocols, I have isolated myself and I am under home quarantine. I request all those who have come in contact with me to isolate themselves and get tested," Nitin Gadkari tweeted.

Mumbai saw a decline in Covid-19 cases for the fourth consecutive day while Delhi registered more than 20,000 infections on Tuesday.
Even though the highly transmissible Omicron variant has led to a spurt in cases in the country, hospitalisations and deaths are fewer compared to the peaks driven by Delta last year.
Delhi recorded 21,259 cases and 23 Covid-related deaths on Tuesday, which is the highest in the last eight months, taking the death toll to 25,200. The positivity rate has amounted to 25.65 percent, according to health department data.
On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal assured the people that a lockdown won't be imposed in the national capital.
"Rising Covid cases are a matter of concern but there is no need to panic. Very few people are getting hospitalised. Wearing a mask is very important. There will be no lockdown if you continue to wear a mask. There is no plan to impose a lockdown as of now," Kejriwal said while addressing a virtual press conference.
