Coronavirus Cases HIGHLIGHTS: Ten states including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Kerala and Punjab have shown a steep rise in the daily COVID-19 cases accounting for 84.21 per cent of the 1,26,789 new infections.
As many as 37 doctors of the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi have tested positive for coronavirus. As per reports, while 32 of them have mild symptoms and are in home isolation, five are admitted in the hospital itself for treatment.
All the 37 doctors who have tested positive were vaccinated.
In the view of several reports claiming large crowd gatherings at various railyways stations including New Delhi and Mumbai, the Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) Central Railway has said that some old and fake videos showing crowds at various stations are making rounds and urged that people should not believe in any such rumours.
In the view of Covid-19 prevention and control in the national capital, the All India Institute of Media Science has said that it will only take up urgent procedures or surgeries in various operation theatres of with effect from April 10.

Joining chorus to the ongoing allegation by states regarding shortage of Coronavirus vaccine, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday said that vaccination drive is going well in Delhi but the current stock will last only for 4-5 days.
"The vaccination drive is going well in Delhi. We received some vaccines yesterday. We have stock for 4-5 days. We have demanded more and we will get it," Jain said during a presser earlier in the day.

Apart from Noida and Ghaziabad, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a night curfew in four major cities of the state including Varanasi, Kanpur, Lucknow, and Prayagraj with effect from Thursday night.
In light of the recent increase in number of Covid-19 cases, the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration has imposed a night curfew in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, with ristriction starting from today (April 8). The curfew will be in place between 10 pm to 5 am till April 17th. However, the movement of essential goods and services will be exempted from the order, officials said.

What is concerning is the fact that the national weekly Covid-19 positivity rate has increased by 6.21 per cent from 2.19 to 8.40 per cent in the first seven days of March and April.
