Delhi Pvt Liquor Shops To Close From Thursday, 300 Govt Vends To Take Over Sale


Private liquor shops will be a thing of the past in the capital as they will be replaced by over 300 Delhi government vends from Thursday owing to the switch over from the Excise Policy 2021-22 to the old regime, officials told news agency PTI. Nearly 250 private liquor vends, licensed under now-withdrawn Excise Policy 2021-22, are running currently in the city.


Some of the private vends having stocks saw crowd outside as they offered schemes like buy one to get one free. The Excise department had already notified the private licensees that they will not be allowed in retail liquor sale beyond August 31.


PM Modi's 2-Day Visit To Kerala Begins Today


Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be on a 2-day visit to Kerala from Thursday during which he would attend various programmes, including the commissioning of the country's first indigenously built aircraft carrier — INS Vikrant - on September 2. The Prime Minister would arrive here on Thursday evening, address a public meeting and visit the Adi Shankara janmabhoomi kshetram (temple) at Kalady - the birthplace of the Hindu saint, official sources told news agency PTI.


During his visit, PM Modi he would lay the foundation stone of Kochi Metro Phase- II project at 6 PM on Thursday and inaugurate phase-1A, first stretch from SN Junction to Vadakkekotta. The next day, he would commission the Vikrant at the Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi and also "unveil the new naval ensign (Nishaan) thereby doing away with the colonial past," the PMO has said in a statement.


India's First Vaccine For Cervical Cancer Prevention To Be Launched Today


India's first indigenously developed quadrivalent Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine for the prevention of cervical cancer will be launched here on Thursday, officials said on Wednesday The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) had last month granted market authorisation to Serum Institute of India (SII) to manufacture an indigenously-developed vaccine against cervical cancer.


Union Minister of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh will launch the vaccine at IIC Delhi. SII CEO Adar Poonawalla will be present at the event, the officials said.
