Breaking News LIVE: Fire Breaks Out At Howrah Paint Factory, 18 Injured

At least 18 people suffered injuries as a major fire broke out at a paint factory in West Bengal's Howrah district on Wednesday afternoon, a fire department official said.

Two of those injured are in "critical" condition, having sustained 80 per cent burns, he said, adding that the blaze was first spotted at the paint manufacturing unit in Shibpur around 1.40 pm.

"Workers were inside the factory when the fire started. While some managed to flee, at least 18 sustained injuries. An electrical short circuit at the mixing plant or the air conditioning system might have led to the fire. Since it is a paint unit, there were several inflammable items," he said.

Eight fire tenders have been pressed into service, and the situation, at the moment, is under control, the official said. (PTI)

Breaking News LIVE: Punjab, Haryana, UP To Receive Rainfall During Weekend

The maximum temperature in Delhi may dip slightly on Wednesday but isolated areas may record a heatwave.

At the Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi's base station, the maximum temperature is predicted to settle at 43 degrees Celsius.

Many parts of Delhi had reeled under a punishing heatwave for a fifth consecutive day on Tuesday.

Weather experts said a fresh western disturbance may bring some relief over the weekend.

Five out of 11 weather stations in Delhi recorded a heatwave on Tuesday.

Weather experts have attributed the heatwave spell to the lack of strong western disturbances and incessant hot and dry westerly winds.

Mahesh Palawat, vice-president (climate change and meteorology), Skymet Weather, said a fresh western disturbance may induce a cyclonic circulation over Punjab and Haryana which would lead to intermittent pre-monsoon activity in Haryana, Punjab, north Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh from June 10.

The maximum temperature in the capital may drop to 40-41 degrees Celsius by Friday.

With the monsoon expected to cover eastern India by June 15, easterly winds will bring in moisture and intensify pre-monsoon activity in northwest India.
